Some modern songs are related to "Macbeth," such as Elvis Costello's "Miss Macbeth" from his 1989 "Spike" album. The lyrics describe her as a monstrous-looking woman, and the chorus asks, "How can you miss what you've never possessed, Miss Macbeth?"
Several other modern songs are inspired by lines within "Macbeth." Lady Macbeth's line, "Yet do I fear thy nature; it is too full o' the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way," is transformed into a more affectionate tone by Billy Bragg in his song, "The Milkman of Human Kindness": "I love you / I am the milkman of human kindness / I will leave an extra pint."
"Cordelia" by The Tragically Hip also references an old superstition about the play in its lyrics: "Treading the boards, screaming out Macbeth / Just to see how much bad luck you really get."
